Music vs. Misery

Nothing like coming across a cute little indie flick with a killer soundtrack to improve my Sunday night.

Passenger Side (2009) stars Joel Bissonnette and Adam Scott (AKA the adorably awkward Ben Wyatt on Parks and Recreation AKA the love of my life) as brothers who spend the day driving around Los Angeles looking for… well, just watch it. But only if you’re strange like me and enjoy movies that have lots of dialogue and not a heck of a lot happens.

As Michael (Scott) and Tobey (Bissonnette) drive around town in a beat-up BMW, they listen to some pretty great tunes on the tape deck: Silver Jews, Smog, Guided By Voices, and Superchunk, just to name a few of the artists. Someone was nice enough to make a playlist of the soundtrack on iTunes — check it out. The last two tracks were the film’s definite standouts though: “Hard Drive” by Evan Dando of The Lemonheads, and of course, “Passenger Side” by Wilco.

Hey, so who wants to get me a job as a movie music supervisor? It’s kind of my dream. Well… that and marrying Ben Wyatt.
