Gonna run out in the meadow to catch the silence when it sings

When most people make mention of The Tallest Man on Earth, they are referring to this Turkish dude. There is, however, another man who has earned this title. Although Kristian Matsson only stands at 5’8, his gorgeous folk songs (that shamelessly have Bob Dylan’s influence written all over them) could easily make him tower over any Guinness World Record holder. I am positively in love.
The song that made me fall hard and fast for this Swede, “I Won’t Be Found,” is a twangy, imagery-filled number off last year’s Shallow Grave album. Today I came across a noticeably different version of the song, recorded back in October as part of a Daytrotter session. Kristian replaces the upbeat acoustic guitar for melancholy piano chords that help emphasize the true sadness of the song’s lyrics. My heart is breaking in the best possible way.

Well if I ever see the morning
Just like a lizard in the spring
I’m gonna run out in the meadow
To catch the silence when it sings
I’m gonna force the Serengeti
To disappear into my eyes
Then when I hear your voices callin’
I’m gonna turn just inside out
Well if I ever get to slumber
Just like a mole deep in the ground
Hell, I won’t be found
“The Gardener” is another one of his beautiful songs and this live video is equally as impressive. Only Kristian’s silhouette can be seen as the sun slowly sets against the Swedish countryside. How I wish I were there at this very moment.
Go here to watch the rest of the videos and see the sky turn the most magnificent shade of pink. It will be the most awe-inspiring thing you see all day — I promise.
