Happy 60th, Boss!

So, The Boss turned 60 today — I think that this means it’s time for me to get a new old-man-crush… but naaah.

Everybody knows that nothin’ beats a good Springsteen cover, so in honour of the man responsible for the best moment of my life (yup, I’m in there somewhere), I will share with you my ten personal faves. In case my choices don’t make it obvious enough, I’m a really big fan of Nebraska.

Originally from Greetings from Asbury Park, N.J. (1973)
MP3: David Bowie - It’s Hard to Be A Saint in the City
MP3: Eddie Vedder - Growin’ Up (Live)

Originally from Born to Run (1975)
MP3: Badly Drawn Boy - Thunder Road

Originally from Nebraska (1982)
MP3: The Hold Steady - Atlantic City
MP3: Tom Thumb - Atlantic City
MP3: The National - Mansion on the Hill (Live)

MP3: The Veils - State Trooper (Live)

Originally from Born in the U.S.A. (1984)
MP3: A.A. Bondy - I’m On Fire

Originally from the Philadelphia soundtrack (1994)
MP3: David Gray - Streets of Philadelphia (Live)

Originally from The Ghost of Tom Joad (1995)
MP3: Junip - The Ghost of Tom Joad

In a cheap attempt to try to get you to download one of my favourite covers of all time, I will mention that Junip is this little-known band from Sweden whose lead singer happens to be José González. I honestly cannot imagine a better interpretation of this song… it’s absolutely perfect. Kinda like Springsteen’s bum.
