Music vs. Misery

"What came first — the music or the misery?"

i don’t know where i belong, i don’t know where i went wrong… oh, but i can write a song

Despite only having released one self-recorded EP, Denver-based trio The Lumineers have caused quite a stir in the folk scene in the last year. Their October Daytrotter Session is probably one of the finest of the hundreds that the site has available for download. April 3rd will see the release of The Lumineers’ anticipated full-length debut, and I’ll be catching them in Vancouver just a couple days prior. I envision it being a show of stomp/clap catharsis in the vein of The Head and Heart — an experience that I’ll fondly look back many years down the line.

From their bio:

The roots revival of the last few years has primed listeners for a new generation of rustic, heart-on-the-sleeve music—the kind that nods to tradition while setting off into uncharted territory. The Lumineers walk that line with an unerring gift for timeless melodies and soul-stirring lyrics.

True that. Check out their new video for “Ho Hey” above and then listen for yourself.

My pal Heather featured The Lumineers in one of her intimate Fuel/Friends Chapel Sessions. So, so good. Give it a listen here.

Go stomp/clap along with The Lumineers if they happen to stop by your town.
