Bumbershoot 2011 // some pics and a mix

If I got into what a great time I had at Seattle’s Bumbershoot 2011 (September 3-5), I’d be here for ages. Instead, here are a few pics, (although limited because my camera died on the first day and I forgot my charger at home), as well as some tunes to give you an idea of which lovely artists I had the opportunity to see perform this year. If you’re anywhere in the Northwest area, go to Bumbershoot next year. It’s one of the most affordable, family friendly festivals out there.

Yay bikes!

Little Dragon at the Fisher Green Stage.

Inside the EMP Sky Church at the Decibel Stage.

Emancipator laying down some tracks inside the EMP Sky Church.

Joe Pug & the Hundred Mile Band at the EMP Level 3 Stage. I’ve been following Joe for about four years now, and I tend to think of him as a young Bob Dylan — a musical genius just on the verge of breaking out. The indoor stages were filling up all weekend, so naturally I was paranoid that I wouldn’t be able to get in to see him — surely word had gotten out about this talented young fellow. Imagine my surprise had no difficulty getting into the building and walked into the room to find roughly 25 people there. Hands down, one of the best sets of the weekend.

(Not my photo. I wish!)

Seeing hometown boy Macklemore fill Key Arena was almost a spiritual experience. I’ve never seen anything quite like it. I was so enthralled, I went and saw him again when he came to Vancouver the following weekend. Between becoming a huge Macklemore fan literally overnight, and how often I’ve been listening to Jay-Z and Kanye’s Watch the Throne of late, I’m feeling pretty damn gangster these days.
